Harm reduction is a public health approach to reduce the adverse consequences of drug use among persons who continue to use drugs and in the society at large. For people addicted to heroin, morphine or opium, methadone treatment is a legal, safe and effective means to minimize craving, discomfort and other harms arising from withdrawal of illicit drugs.

   The 4 formulae of harm reduction strategy
